Sakura and snakes may conflict in the representation of a japanese landscape…

… but not necessarilly for other countries. There was a sakura tree in the garden of the house I grew in ; in France.

And, in there, snakes tend to go into hibernation from october, and during about six monthes. Which makes them wake up between… middle-march and middle april : that’s right, right at the sakura time.

I for one have thinked about my bodysuit for a long time (I’m nearly 30 years old, and at least do think about it since I’m 15 – and I can say there will be no sakura on it ; I’m certainly not enough of a colorful person for that, though ephemerality will certainly be present in the drawing, through another representation), but as I’m no Japanese (though I feel very attracted by this culture), references in this bodysuit will be mine : those of a french guy, mixed up with the influences I gathered in life, amongst which many are hindo-japanese.

A storm over some chalk cliffs, where I’ve been born, bordering the Channel sea, during early spring, as well as a snake (which will be the hindouist Kundalini, symbolizing in my case the contingency in life’s pathes, or in other terms, irrepressible luck), will definately be part of it : and though I do not want any sakura on, in my case, it would be insightful, towards seasonal coherency.

Apart from that, nice back the girl do have, but why do you solarize the colors on it ?

Thank you very much for your comment! One of the nicest one I can remember! I was actually making the link with Traditional Japanese style. I find that most elements in this tattoo feel Traditional, excepting for the points I mentioned. Other countries have other traditions :) The world is a big place! And that is great :)

Personally I have a lot of Sakuras :) No snake :) But I do have a dragon :) I don’t feel anyone has to ‘fit’ within some ‘given rules’ as long as he does his best to respect the world and learn from people. I feel the way you describe how you think and feel about your own tattoo, is exactly what Tattoos is about. Your story! Your own symbolism! Great :) A personal journey! Please send us some pics if you feel like it!

I am actually not sure the back is so ‘Solarized’ as you mentioned. Maybe a little, they might have boosted contrast and brightness.
Would love to see in in real! Personally I have the feeling it is not ‘so far’ from reality. It looks like her skin might be fairly white.

Thank you for your visit! And your great comment!

Thank you for your kindness, and for sharing with us some of the great japanese tattoo art (it is thanks to you I have discovered Sabado, whom I’d like to have some crazy ink some day – though in quite hidden parts of my body – as I said, I’m not that much of a colorful person, at least, not at first glance, not even at second one, maybe – my colorful crazyness, though undeniable, is kind of a secret garden).

As for me, I am not inked yet : but after at least 15 years of thoroughly thinking about it, just for craving for a bodysuit more and more everyday, so I can be on the outside like I feel inside, I guess one can tell this is just litteraly a question of time (and resources… but this is just details, when one really wants something). I’ll give you news when I’ll have passed under the needles, but do not be stressed about the time it’ll take ;)

Other than that, I guess the photographer retouched the picture a lot (blue skin, overcontrasted colors, and such), but anyway, even if I’m not sure about what the colors would look like in real life, I feel the drawing is very nice and inspiring, anyway.

And thank you again for your website ;)

Thanks to you too :) I wish you an enjoyable journey on the tattoo path :) When I was in Europe, it sometimes felt that tattoo where some kind of outside thing linked to the soul, but it was ok to show. As people have more freedom in that field. In Europe. Or generally in the western world. In Japan it is quite different, especially if you get tattooed, full body in traditional style. I feel not only it is almost rude to show it in public (if you respect people in general), unless in the right place at the right time. But also, it becomes more and more personal. Except for some moment where I really don’t care, most of the time, showing my tattoos, is really like revealing my soul. So I understand what you mean! Do not hide the colours when you make your tattoo! Hide your tattoos when you do not want to share them! Your skin is yours and seen by the people the closest to you! Please enjoy having your inner garden (soul) revealed on your skin! It will tell you a beautiful story! It is a long journey before you get a full body suit, you’ll have plenty of stories to remember! You’re also likely to learn a lot about the true meaning of tattoo!

Though I am not particularly exhibionnist (understand “not at all” :p ; even when very hot, I always wear long sleeves, for instance ; my skin is very bright, and ink or not, I fear the sunlight, and do not like to exhibit myself anyway), I still draw degrees in the possibility for others to be able to see what I want to ink.

What I’ll put on my forearms, I expect quite a lot of people to be able to see it (friends, and for instance, friends of friends, I am not that close to). What I intend to put on my underarms, I expect very few people to be able to see it (only very close friends, bodily intimate people, and such ;) ).

It is in that sense that I spoke about hiding some colors : some kind of kakushibori, but in the anatomic sense. In the most discrete body parts, I intend to put the maybe most “excentric” things, as excentricity is not the most obvious in my personality. Those would not only be my soul, but some kind of secret garden inside my very soul, if you understand what I mean. A secret place, even inside something that already is intimate, that is ;)
