Hanuman, Indu God Tattoo by Chris Garver

Hanuman, Indu God Tattoo

He is the son of Vayu – God of the wind – and Anjana, a heavenly maiden born as a monkey under a curse. He is equal to his father in strength and vigor and unsurpassed in intelligence and power.

As a child he imagined the rising sun to be a fruit and flew towards it to pluck it. It was the intervention of Indra, the King of the Gods, that stopped him.

Many believe that his birth is related to that of Rama. Dasharatha, Rama’s father, had three queens none of whom could bear him a child. So, he prayed, and his prayers were answered when Agni, the fire God, gave him some kheer to give to his queens.

It was believed that the kheer was blessed by the Gods, and his queens would bear him sons. The story goes that one of his queens, Kaikeyi, dropped a portion of the kheer. This was borne away by the wind into the hands of a monkey. This monkey Anjana, quickly ate up the kheer and soon gave birth to Hanuman!

So, Hanuman is called “Pavan-Putra” meaning son of wind. He is the god of power. Hindus revere Him as the symbol of strength. Hanuman is also described in the Hindu epic Ramayana as a great aide to Lord Rama.

He helped Sri Rama in his mission to kill Ravana and rescue Sita, Lord Rama’s beloved wife who was kidnapped by the Devil Ravana.

You will see Hanuman’s picture carved out in many caves and the stone walls of many temples and sacred places in India.

Didn’t at that Point that Chris Garver would make it on the Miami Ink Show!

MS 13

MS 13 portrait

A few videos from the MS 13 gang! One of the most dangerous gangs according to the US government.

“Mara Salvatrucha refers to large gangs involved in criminal activities in Central America and the United States. The gang names are commonly abbreviated as MS-13, Mara, MS, and are composed mostly of Salvadorans, Hondurans and other Central Americans. The MS-13 gangs have cliques, or factions, located throughout the United States and Latin America. Membership is believed to total over 100,000 worldwide.

MS-13 criminal activities include drug smuggling and sales, black market gun sales, human trafficking, assassinations for hire, theft, and assaults on law enforcement officials. Their activities have caught the eye of the FBI, who in September 2005 initiated wide-scale raids against suspected gang members, netting 660 arrests across the country. In the United States, the gang’s two strongholds have historically been in California (mostly in Los Angeles) and in Washington, D.C. area.
Former gang member Brenda Paz said that MS-13 is well structured, with multiple leaders, and that the gang’s goal was to become the top gang in the United States.”

Gang Culture

Prisoners Tattoos

Did you kow that Honduras, if you have a tattoo, it looks like you might go straight to jail,as tattoos are so much associated with gang cultures. Let’s be honest. How does someone become a gang member? or is society responsible? Would it be generated by American policies? LA machine? US export also rooted in Central America… Also listen to the interview on that page. here
I personally believe the government should offer free tattoo removals for people who do not wish to be associated with gangs anymore.

Check this gang video too! Not recommended at home, unless you are a gang member.

Prison tattoo parlors

Following the home made tattoo blog entry below. I have decided to point you towards two related articles.

I have found a short article from Andrew Lichtenstein who gives some insights of what prisoners tattoos can mean. Prisoners tattoos are fascinating, especially due to the conditions in which they are made and how they related to the intensity of the Prisoners lifes. Read here

Prisoners tattoos

I have also found out that Canadians have decided open legal tattoo parlors in some prisons. I personally think its an excellent idea. As this reduces the risk of transmitting desease. They would tattoo themselves anyway. So why not providing them with professional equipment. As mentioned in the article, it would allow prisoners to retouch or change their tattoos before leaving jail. I think this could become a whole new school of tattoo artists with real life stories. It would probably also allow prisoners to get job they love when leaving prisons. I have always seen art as a kind of therapy. so why not tattoo? Read the article Also, if you have made tattoos in prison, please send me some pics and their stories. As these would prove very interesting for people in general and for my research. Peace! Keep it real!

Homemade tattoo

Well, well, well… Home made tattoo vs Professional Tattoo. Two points of views that make sense. I am not personally against homemade tattoo, excepting for the fact that it is illegal in most countries. At the end of the day it’s up to you, regarding the quality of the design, the personal bound with the person who tattoos you. Or if you do it yourself. Tattoo started as a primitive form. and I believe there is a great deal in making tattoo with some kind of spiritual connection with the tattoo or the person who tattoos you.
It’s very personal as any decision we make for ourselves. However, please keep in mind that Hepatite and Aids are serious issues. So I would not recommend you to work with unsterilized material. However if you decide to do it anyway, make sure that the needles have never been used, boil them for at least 10-15 min, and keep it mind, that you are responsible for yourself, but also for others. So watch out for what you do with the needle. you wouldn’t want someone else to step on it. see video here

Girl who can’t handle tattoo

A video of a girl who really can’t handle tattoo. I have never seen anyone with so much mental pain while being tattooed. I think it’s worth checking out if you are a girl and are thinking about your first tattoo. However, keep in mind that the pain isn’t as paintful as it looks in that video. Unless you were doing a really big tattoo. But for a small one, it’s ok. I’ll make sure I blog a video of a girl whp doesn’t scream so that you are not stopped by this video. Always think twice about getting a tattoo. Not for the pain, but for what it means to you. I am not sure I understand the guys who didn’t stop. But again, maybe she really wanted it, in which case there is no other solution than breathing and relaxing. Video here
