Fudo myo by Yoso
The Yoso tattoo Blog is an atempt to document observations and resources regarding Tattoo culture and the world around it, and to promote the work of Yoso aka Horitama who studies Tattooing in Miyazaki, Japan. Every mark is a sign that creates meaning, the Act of tattoing oneself, or getting a tattoo is an ancestral and transcendental tradition. Yoso tries to share what he discovers about the deeper meaning and the cultural context of this fascinating art form that has coexisted with life & Communities since the dawn of time.
YOSO aka Horitama PROFILE
Initially trained as an artist following European traditions at the Royal Academy of Arts in Brussels. Yoso moved to England to pursue his studies in painting after which he established himself as an artist/art director in London where he has lived for 10 years. His focus has always been on visual arts, including graphic design, digital design, painting, objects, murals, video projections, and the creation of environments and brands. The last 5 years of his designer carreer, most of his work has been focused on commercial work, including Clients such as Nike, Diesel, FIFA, BMG, MTV, The Book of Cool along Experimental & activist work in more underground scenes and club nights, an attempt to find an equilibrium a la dr Jekkyl and mr. Hide. His work and collaborations have been shown & reviewed in numerous festivals, publications & exhibitions around the world, academic or DIY!
After years of collaborations & Travelling with artists and people from all walks of life and having experimented with various techniques and ideas. following the impact of his training at the Shaolin Temple in London, Buddhism and Zen became an integral part of his life where new answers had to be found, in essence to define what it meant to be true to his soul, as we say in our jargon, for the good of all sentient beings. Life brought Yoso towards a simplicity of life in Japan where he studies Japanese Arts & Japanese Culture with a focus on Tattoo & Reiki practice. Japan is one of the countries that has a beautiful visual tradition still alive and also some of the most creative contemporary design available in the world today. He perceives Traditional Japanese Arts not only as a visual style or a trend, but a way of working and living in harmony!
Although Yoso only started tattooing in 2005, 18 years of experimental work and studies of visual traditions have shaped his personal approach to art; beauty, spiritual development and exchange being what drives Yoso in every breath and every line he draws. Conceptual in its approach, but more importantly a true respect for everyone he accepts to tattoo.
If you wish to get tattooed by Yoso, get in touch. Don’t expect the shop experience. It usually starts with a first meeting or a few emails to discuss the style and the motivation behind the tattoo. After which Yoso will take you to a series of designs, exploring meaning and symbolism, then craft a unique design until you feel it reflects your journey and is ready to be carved into the skin. A timeless process to enjoy!
Love and Peace

hello everyone,
first of all: i’m from germany, which is pretty far away from where yoso lives, but that didn’t matter as you will go on reading…
a few months ago i contacted yoso via e-mail. i told him about a tattoo i wanted and he was very open about from the very beginning.
i explained which elements i would like to have and also talked about symbolism and yoso was really patient with me.
i felt a connection right away and had the feeling that we were on the same page. knowing about the elements and what the tattoo is supposed to represent, yoso made a first draft. that blwe me right away!
from there on, the draft deleveloped step by step and we still were just comunicating via e-mail!
yoso really tried to express in the draft what i wanted to have. he didi an amazing job and i am really happy about it!
in a few weeks we will meet in europe to start the tattooing! i can’t wait!
for all of you who tink about getting tattooed, write an e-mail to yoso and he will put on paper what you have in your head!
thank you for reading.
love

Professionalism and creativity at its best! I had a Sumi Painting done by Yoso and just received it recently. He was working on this piece for a while and gosh was it amazing! I love his work and this one will definitely be appreciated forever. Thank you so much for your patience and for accepting doing this for me. I enjoy your art very much and I truly wish you only the best and continue your growth as a tattoo artist. Who knows, maybe I will contact you again for another one!
All the best for you, Y! and I shall send you photos once it has been framed!
Thank You, Merci, Grazie mille, Gracias, ありがとう
